FALLEN ANGEL (Devaduuta Panna Asana) is a less traditional yoga pose, which fuses my love for arm balances and innovation and adds beauty to the practice. ![]()
Imagine you are an angel in heavens and you just lost your balance on a fluffy cloud and plunged with your head towards the ground but your wings keep reaching towards the sky. The fall symbolises falling from grace, hitting the ground hard and realizing that there is no such thing as falling from grace – you should keep your inner grace shining regardless of circumstances.
Fallen Angel is a challenging arm balance and inversion, where the temple rests lightly on the ground. It is entered from Side Crow (Parsva Bakasana) by lowering the side of the face to the ground and then lifting both feet towards the sky. Fallen Angel is a powerful posture as it requires flexibility in the torso to twist deeply and strength in the arms, shoulders and core to support body weight and lift the legs. A sweet blend of strength and lightness! Even though I love the aesthetic beauty of this pose, I still struggle relaxing my face in it- can you tell?!
